Das Passiv – Passiv übungen

The Passive Voice in German.

German uses a similar structure for the passive, but with “werden” as the auxiliary verb. Here the accusative object of the action becomes the nominative subject: Ich sehe dich. -> Du wirst gesehen.

If we still want to identify the active subject, we put the information into a prepositional phrase, usually with “von” – which of course takes the dative case: Du wirst von mir gesehen.

The preposition “durch” can be used when the active subject is an instrument of the action, rather than an initiator: Er wird durch eine Explosion geweckt (He is awakened by an explosion). Berlin wurde durch eine Mauer geteilt (Berlin was divided by a wall). Of course durch takes the accusative, as always. As with the English “with,” “mit” can be used to indicate a tool used to carry out the action: Die Tür wurde mit einem Schlüssel geöffnet (The door was opened with a key). Read more »

Jan. 4, 2008 —
After years of reoccurring kidney stones and regular surgeries, Jared Hess became addicted to
painkillers.
After a monthlong stay in the hospital and being prescribed the powerful painkiller Oxycontin, Hess
continued to use the drug against his doctors’ orders, surreptitiously obtaining pills.
Within a year of first being prescribed the painkiller, he found himself in rehab. He was just 19 years
old.
“I was in college when it first became a real problem. I lost interest in school, stopped going to class, my
relationships with friends and family deteriorated,” Hess, now 24, told ABCNEWS.com.

Using Magnets To Treat Pain

Magnets are objects that produce a type of energy called magnetic fields.
Magnets are widely marketed to treat or ease the symptoms of various
diseases and conditions, including pain. This Research Report
provides an overview of the use of magnets for pain, summarizes
current scientific knowledge about their effectiveness for this purpose, and suggests
additional sources of information. Terms that are underlined are defined at the
end of this report

Key Points
• The vast majority of magnets marketed to consumers to treat pain are of a type
called static (or permanent) magnets, because the resulting magnetic fields are
unchanging. The other magnets used for health purposes are called
electromagnets, because they generate magnetic fields only when electrical
current flows th Read more »

Does Anyone Win a War? by James Glaser

It doesn’t matter, the good war, the just war, the bad war, the cold war, any war, it doesn’t matter which war. We all lose with every one of them.
War is not the start of a conflict. It doesn’t matter if there was a sneak attack or one with a up front declaration. Wars are the result of failed communication and the loss of patience. If there is a problem with language, then both sides can be working toward the same goal of peace and not know it.
If in a war, one side totally dominates and crushes the other, there is still no victory as not only have the victors made generations of the vanquished hate them, but the conquering armies have to live with the very acts of war that brought them victory.

Every action that we take in this life leaves a mark of remembrance on our minds and with the soldier that remembering will effect not only their life, but those of their family for may Read more »

A Comment on Anti aging

A Comment on Anti aging

When one uses the phrase ‘anti aging treatments’, the first thing that comes to mind is anti wrinkle creams! In fact, these creams have become almost synonymous with anti aging treatments and have thus given the entire genre a stunted and narrow definition. But anti aging treatments are about much more than merely removing the wrinkle off ones face! Anti aging treatments are all about holistically treating the aging human body to make it look and feel young. And this involves much more than the merely superficial. Although looking young is most evident in the physical appearance, it has a lot more to do with the overall health and fitness of the body. And genuine anti aging treatments will concentrate on the inner well being as a precursor to external appearance.

But the world of anti wrinkle creams, face stretching creams and the like have given the entire field of anti aging treatments a bad name. Superficial anti aging treatments treat merely the external body. But even then, superficial anti aging treatments are a multi million dollar industry. Studies estimate that nearly 80% of the over the counter drugs and creams sold as part of anti aging treatments, actually belong to the superficial or external cosmetic category. And when the industry itself is worth several billions, you can safely imagine how large that is!

But more important than using anti aging products, is learning to choose the one that are beneficial. It is not true to say that all prescribed anti aging products are beneficial. In fact, any cosmetic anti aging product brings with it a certain amount of side effects. This is because anti aging product go against nature as it were. They try to reverse and sustain what is essentially a natural degradation of the human body. And anything that tries to reverse the natural, naturally faces resistance. This resistance could take the form of mild, rashes and pains. But if intensive chemical anti aging treatments like invasive surgery, botox injections and the like are used, they could leave more serious effects like scarring and freezing of the facial tissue.

However, there is a school of thought that anti aging treatments are a recourse adopted by the busy and the stressed out population as a way to regain their youth. It has been found for instance that almost all anti aging treatments are used by urban and cosmopolitan dwellers. Rural dwellers on the other hand, scarcely feel the need to use anti aging treatment. Their simple lives help them live longer and fitter lives.

Adiction Treatment

Adiction Treatment
Alcoholism and smoking cigarettes are problems that plague people across the world, regardless of racial or economic background, and result in over 500,000 deaths annually in the United States alone. Roughly 10 percent of people who use alcohol will become smoke cigrettes, another 10 percent will become alcoholics. To clarify, ‘alcohol abuse’ is the behavior that precedes the disease ‘alcoholism’, and though it doesn’t always lead to the disease it can in itself be very disruptive to an individual’s life. Alcohol treatment is recommended for both alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

The greatest barrier toward recovery from Smoking Cigarettes is an unwillingness to seek help on the part of the abuser. It is important to keep in mind that smoking cigarettes and alcoholism are disorders that afflict millions of people around the world. It has nothing to do with a lack of willpower, or poor character. Like all addictions, alcoholism is a neurologically scripted compulsive behavior that once develops is impossible to fight without help.

The good news is smoking cigarettes treatments and alcohol treatments are often effective. Don’t be dissuaded by the low percentages shown in studies done on treatment methods. While its true, most treatments have a fairly low percentage of’success’, they almost always induce some amount of progress for the patient. Addictions are not likely to be overcome immediately, and almost always involve setbacks and relapses. However, with time and repeated attempts, alcohol treatment is effective for most people.

Hospital Windows (Author Unknown)

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world Read more »

Happiness is back

Growing incomes in western societies no longer make us happier, and more individualistic, competitive societies make some of us positively unhappy/ Public policy should take its cue once more from Bentham’s utilitarianism, unfashionable for many decades but now vindicated by modern neuroscience. • Over the last 50,.years, we in the west have enjoyed unparalleled economic growth. We have better homes, cars, holidays, jobs, education and above all health. According to standard economic theory, this should have made us happier. But surveys show otherwise. When Britons or Americans are asked how happy they are, they report no improvement over the last 50 years. Mere pyopl.e s.uffer from depression, and crime – another indicator of ttis^atisfaction^’.• is also much higher. These facts challenge many of the priorities we have set ourselves both as societies and as inviduals. The truth is that we are in a situation previously unknown to man; When most people exist near the breadline, material progress does indeed make them happier. People in the rich world (above, say, $20,000 a head per year) are happier than people in poorer countries, and people in poor countries do become happier as they become richer. But when material discomfort has been banished, extra income becomes much less important than our relationships with each other: with family, with friends and in the community. The danger is that we sacrifice relationships too much in pursuit of higher income. The desire to be happy is central to our nature. And, following the utilitarianism of Jeremy Bentham, I want a society in which people are as happy as possible and in which each person’s happiness counts equally. That should be the philosophy for our age, the guide for public policy and for individual action. And it Read more »

Was ist Nibelungenlied

Das unvollständig erhaltene heldenepische Stabreimgedicht (Hiltibrant en Read more »

Was ist Parabel – What is Parabel – Parabel Nedir ?

Parabel
